What a Day!
What a day yesterday for the sports fan. Terrell Owens gets released by the Cowboys, Manny signs a contract he doesn't want with the Dodgers and AROD is diagnosed with an injury that may or may not have been caused by steroids. Could this be nirvana? Could this be the sports world actually conceding that these guys are not Gods? This will be the third team that gets rid of T.O. Can he burn any more bridges in the NFL? If you believe ESPN there is maybe one team that would possibly sign him. He is one of the most productive receivers in NFL hstory and no one wants him. His attitude is the reason people are not pursuing him. Manny held out and ended up with the contract the Dodgers wanted instead of the other way around. Eat that Agent! AROD is looking for sympathy for an injury that may sideline his tainted career, nobody cares and although I hope it is not serious, it seems to be a bit of poetic justice. This was maybe a day where the casual fan is actually able to enjoy the sports news for a change. Let's keep it going.

Agents
I think I may have figured out what is wrong with sports; Agents. Agents are the people who have athletes hold out for more money, tell them to not play their hardest and allegedly have other people take drug tests for their stars. Are Agents killing the sports we all know and love? Possibly. Every time we hear about something bad happening we also hear an Agent trying to put a positive spin on whatever they did. No matter what the crime or circumstance. I agree there are some good Agents out there, but they are few and far between. Sports was better when it was not all about the money. When does greed stop and actual enjoyment begin? That is a question that will probably never be answered.

What is wrong with sports?
What is wrong with sports? The extent of my Blog is to decipher what is going wrong with sports and why pro sports are a joke and overrated. This is quite an undertaking. I like sports. I know that. I play Fantasy Football. I watch the Red Sox on TV and on MLB tv. I honestly do not know what to do. Maybe fans are what's wrong with sports. Are we stupid? Are we ignorant? Why do we keep following a bunch of dishonest, arrogant and selfish players? Do we have anything better to do with our lives? We spend a fortune on tickets. We buy and wear memorabilia. Do we worship the wrong entities in our lives? I hope someone can point out to me why we follow sports the way we do. I am at a loss for words. Someone please help me understand why we cannot turn away from something that is such a bad example in our lives.

Sports?
As a lifelong sports fanatic I have been asking myself the question lately that I feel others have been asking as well; could I give it up? It is a massive question that may not have an actual answer. I have been a Red Sox fan my whole life and I find it hard to give it up. My family tells me that I do not need to give it up entirely but just accept that it is just a game. I do not know if I could stop following the Sox every day of the season, but I want to. I am so sick of the negative stuff going on in professional sports now, I could scream. Steroids, arrests, beatings, lying. All of it is so messed up I don't understand how the sports have not ceased to exist. These guys are role models? Someone actually asked that question once? Please. I spend my time telling my son to do the opposite of what these so called "athletes" are doing. It seems to be working so far. Sports? I think we have better things to do with our time. Let's start doing some of them.

Brett Favre
Brett Favre is retiring. I think this is best for him and the NFL. I have watched in awe Brett play over the years and have nothing but respect for him as a player, however, Brett has become a shell of himself in the last few years and in my opinion should have stayed retired last year. One of the things that is wrong with sports is that Athletes are allowed to retire and unretire at will. STOP IT! I don't believe for one second when an athlete says they are retiring. Boxers, Baseball players, Basketball players, if you retire stay retired and enjoy your life. You earned it. Maybe the key is that they need to think long and hard about the decision before they go on television and make a spectacle of themselves. Maybe, the people that run sports have to say that if you go through the charade of retiring and you do not mean it, you forfeit your rights as a player and you have to take what you can get. This would mean anyone could sign you for whatever salary they see fit. This would probably stop most of the fake retirement speeches along with the tears that mean absolutely nothing. But, at this time the athletes rule over the sports so I don't see this happening anytime soon.

Close the Hall of Fame
Close the Hall of Fame? I know it sounds crazy but consider this, every player from here on out is going to be suspect about whether they are in for real reasons or whether they were "juiced up". Maybe the players that are currently in there are the only ones that were meant to be in the Hall of Fame. AROD, Bonds, Clemens, McGwire and other players from our era that are under suspicion of steroids are going to be voted into the Hall? Maybe, Maybe not. Simply induct Maddux and Johnson and Glavine and call it a day. No more entries. Eliminate the vote and maybe consider opening it in the future when we have players who have numbers for real reasons and not for fake ones.

AROD
Is this one too easy? That is the question. A Rod has been a lightning rod of controversy for his entire career and now it looks as though he cheated with steroids as well. Allegedly. A ROD is what is wrong with sports but it does not stop with him. Fans are also what is wrong with sports because we have a bunch of cheaters making millions of dollars and we cannot get enough of it. STOP GOING TO THE GAMES! STOP BUYING MERCHANDISE! It is time we set an example for our children and let them know that we will not tolerate this kind of dishonest behavior. I do not know how many players have cheated but it is becoming painfully obvious that more and more of them are doing it and we are watching a fraud happen to the hard working american public. Get it, A FRAUD? I wish we could organize a nationwide boycott of baseball and see the affect it would have on the people who have ruined a great game and continue to drive it right into the ground.
